aac to wma convert
When I-tunes converts WMA files to AAC format, what exactly is going on?

The original WMA files still seem to be present- is I tunes going to create a duplicate for each one, or is it just like adding a piece of code to the WMA files so that I tunes can handle them?

It’s just that I am worried that I-tunes is going to create a stock of duplicate files that will take up disc space needlessly.
Where are the AAC files stored?

I think it does duplicate them and saves them in My Music/iTunes/itunes Music. Because WMA are a windows format, you can’t use them on your ipod.

The simple way is to convert to AAC and then delete the WMAs. I’m assuming you are using Windows Media Player to rip your CDs, so in the future, use a program that will allow you to rip it to an mp3 (such as CDex or Free CD Ripper) so you can use one copy of you music with everything – itunes, Windows Media Player and any other Music Player you may use in the future.
